Blue Paper was delighted to host the official inauguration of the R-PAS heating network on Thursday 11 April.
The aim of the R-PAS project is to convert the waste heat from certain industrial sites in the Port Autonome de Strasbourg into low-carbon heat for district heating.
In 2021, Blue Paper was the first to inject its waste heat into the Strasbourg Eurometropole’s heating networks, thanks to the 11 km of network that linked our site.
Since 2023, joined by Trédi, the 2 sites have been injecting carbon-free heat into the network equivalent to the consumption of more than 30,000 homes, heating the Coop district, the Rhéna clinic, the headquarters of the Ports de Strasbourg, the Soufflet malt factories and the Port du Rhin school.
During the event, two round tables attended by elected representatives, industrialists and partners presented the potential of waste heat recovery solutions for supplying low-carbon energy to district heating networks.
The aim of the R-PAS project, once it has reached its optimum capacity, is to save up to 90,000 tonnes/year of CO₂ emissions linked to industrial or tertiary uses, as well as residential heating.
This industrial ecology approach strengthens our local roots and is in line with our DNA, the pillars of which are the circular economy and the use of low-carbon energy.
