Around thirty Blue Paper employees had the chance to get to know their neighbour (partner): Altem.
This SCHROLL Group site processes over 50,000 tonnes of waste a year, making it one of the largest sorting centres in France!
What happens to our household waste?
As explained in the Maison du Recyclage (an educational and meeting space attached to the sorting centre), since1 January 2023, the Eurométropole has introduced simpler sorting instructions for the general public.
As a result, the SCHROLL group has decided to invest €7 million at the Port du Rhin site in machines and digital lines that will enable finer sorting of packaging to get closer to their goal of “zero ultimate waste”.
Visitors were able to see how, through a succession of automatic and manual sorting stages, waste is sorted and packaged in the form of bales or in bulk, enabling it to be used in the manufacture of new products.
Thanks to the new sorting instructions, 6 yoghurt pots can now become coat hangers, and 163 pots and trays can be transformed into garden chairs!
Blue Paper is also a player in this recycling chain, as we produce brown paper from 100% recycled fibres for our customers to turn into cardboard sheets or boxes, partly thanks to bales of recovered cardboard that we buy from Altem.
We would like to thank the Schroll Group, and especially the guides, for organising the various visits for our employees, who all thoroughly enjoyed them.
In return, Blue Paper will be delighted to open the doors of its factory!
